ENAK History

Clarance Kane - ENAK Microphone Repair

ENAK was established in 1973 when RCA stopped manufacturing microphones.  The C.R.A.E. shop (Custom Repair, Assembly, and Engineering, pronounced "cray") also elected to disband the microphone repair division.  Not wanting to leave customers without resources, RCA approached Clarence Kane and asked him if he would be interested in doing microphone repairs on nights and weekends.  Clarence jumped at the offer.  RCA was super supportive and sold him all of the tools, supplies and even his workbench (which we still have and use) so that he was set up to do repairs.  RCA would hand Clarence a stack of mics on a Monday and he would try & get them back to RCA in a week or two.

Initially, Clarence only did work for RCA. But eventually, the word got out and folks came to him directly. He needed a name for his company. Clarence named his new company ENAK which is his last name, Kane, spelled backwards. Clarence became very well known over the decades and very well loved due to his caring nature.

During his lifetime he amassed a very healthy library of data on RCA mics. We still have most of it. Clarence worked up until 90 days prior to his death. He was 97, alert and worked on ribbon mics right up until the end. ENAK lives on with the goal of maintaining Clarence’s high standards.
